  25.             The DDN Network Information  Center  (NIC)  assists  Defense
  26.             Data  Network  (DDN)  users  and  potential  subscribers  in
  27.             obtaining pertinent information about the DDN and the Inter-
  28.             net.
  29.  
  30.             The NIC supports several database and  information  servers,
  31.             including  the  WHOIS registry of users, hosts, domains, and
  32.             networks, the NIC/QUERY browsing  system,  and  the  TACNEWS
  33.             server.   The  NIC  provides  host  name translation tables,
  34.             maintains domain name system server files, assigns  IP  net-
  35.             work  numbers  and autonomous system numbers, registers net-
  36.             work users, and issues MILNET TAC access cards.  The NIC  is
  37.             also  the  source of DDN documents and the complete Internet
  38.             Request For Comments (RFC) series and index.

  40.             The NIC maintains a toll-free hotline from 7 a.m. to 5  p.m.
  41.             Pacific time at 1-800-235-3155.  Users experiencing problems
  42.             with TAC login, or who have requests for NIC  services,  are
  43.             encouraged to call.

  45.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _A_c_c_e_s_s:

  47.             The  DDN  NIC  is  on  the  Internet  as  host   NIC.DDN.MIL
  48.             (26.0.0.73) and most services are available by telnetting to
  49.             this   machine.    Users   may   also   mail   requests   to
